Perhaps the
most weight related issue in women is the weight gain
associated with pregnancy. The average weight gain during
pregnancy is between 25 to 35 pounds. During the birth, new
moms shed about 12.5 to 14 pounds, leaving about 12 to 21
pounds of excess weight to be lost during the postpartum
period.
But that is
only the best case. Some moms may gain an extra 10 to 20
pounds due to various medical conditions and their inherent
health structure. Also, even the fat that is lost during the
birth leaves a flabby line in the abdominal and stomach
areas
But the
questions is, can you regain your old figure after you're a
mom? The answer is Yes.. But I must tell you that it's quite
difficult to lose especially the last 10 pounds that causes
the flabbiness which in my opinion is more of a concern for
women than the actual pounds themselves.
But having a
baby does not mean you have to be fat. Lots of new moms
regain their pre-pregnancy figure within 8-12 months. True,
it takes time for your body to get back to normal, but don't
despair. Eat properly, get active and let nature do the
rest.
Abdominal
based stretches will work to help tone up the flabbiness and
the lines. But beware.. it will all happen slowly.. And more
so, the results will be less and less apparent if you're
being a mom for 2nd or 3rd time.
There is one
more very important thing to take care of. You must realize
that your figure is not more important that your baby's well
being. Don't rush out and start dieting and stretching right
after the birth. Let things be casual for at least 3 months.
Concentrate on healthy eating, and develop your own light
exercise plan. Then, when your body has begun to recover and
when your period has returned to normal, start following a
healthy, low fat weight-loss plan and you will lose weight
and get rid of the flabbiness as well.
One more very
useful thing is to consult someone who has been through it.
She would be able to advise you a great lot on how to handle
the after birth weight related issues.
Things that I
would recommend for losing birth related weight:
Never ever go
for specialized fad diets for new moms. They are very
unhealthy not for yourself but also for your baby if you're
breastfeeding. One more thing to care is not to let your
daily calorie intake drop below about 1600. This may vary up
to even 2000 calories. Consult your doctor for the exact
advice for yourself.
